Also called Tasseography, Tasseomancy is the divinatory art of reading tea leaves and coffee grounds. Like Palmistry, it is particularly associated with witches and gypsies who popularised it but it has lost popularity to other methods.
The roots of tasseomancy date to the Middle-Ages, when diviners interpreted the symbols formed by blobs of melted wax, molten lead and other substances.
In the XVIIth century, tea was introduced from the Orient to the West by the Dutch and tea drinking quickly became a widespread habit. The shapes and symbols formed by the dregs in the bottom of the cup seemed natural to divination.

The word Tasseomancy is a blend of two words: the Persian word “ṭās” (cup) and the Greek suffix “mancy” (divination).

Ingredients that have been associated with cleansing, calming and divination rituals since time immemorial.
Loose incense should be used on a charcoal disc.
